Areas of Extensive Experience (spanning 20 years)
  • Web design and implementation, including server side support: configuration, CGI programming for common requirements (file uploading, form submital, password protection, etc ...     In addition, we host web sites for a number of local businesses. We've been engaged in this aspect of support for our clients since 2003.

  • TCP/IP security: including Firewall system designs and thorough understanding of the standard IP protocol suite (TCP, UPD, ICMP), along with the services that utilize these protocols; the knowledge of how to setup the security infrastructure, such that unecessary exposure to attack is removed.

  • A proven track record for both the design and implementation of complex Local Area Networks (LANs), based on current high speed switching technology (from a small scale LAN to a large scale campus environment) and WAN network links, either dedicated, FrameRelay, fiberoptic or other media/protocols, including the complexity of a multihomed Internet site utilizing BGP4 (WAN) and OSPF or EIGRP (LAN) routing.

  • An understanding of the strengths and the weakness of various network technologies, including where each should be applied and where each should be avoided, i.e. cell (ATM) versus frame based (various Ethernet options) switching, routing versus switching, etc.

  • The specifications and installation of various types of WAN links via dedicated T1, HDSL, T3, dark-fiber or copper based FrameRelay; or dynamic links as in ISDN.

  • Selection, configuration and use of multiplexers, switches, routers and the implementation of Security stateful packet filtering mechanisms for TCP/IP networks. Specifically: extensive experience with the configuration of Cisco routers (1750s, 2500s, 4700s,3660s, 7507s), including complex IP packet filtering algorithms (with and without the Firewall feature set) across multiple routers and interfaces, and with Cisco switches (Catalyst 1900s, 3100s, 3200s, 5000s, 5500s); PIX, OpenBSD & proxy based Sidewinder Firewalls.

  • Management of Internet connections and all the issues associated with maintaining these links, i.e. ISP selection (very important), Domain Name Services (DNS), current addressing conventions including classless interdomain routing (CIDR), various routing protocols and matching bandwidth requirements to link speed, multihomed sites, equipment options and associated cost.

  • System Management of UNIX/Linux, VMS, MacOS and Windows Servers.
